The Future And The Past Have Now Become Unreal
Last updated
Our world resides in the era of the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution’ and total digitalization. The core values and wealth are drinking water, arable land that is still suitable for farming, and last but not least - Bitcoin. Everything else is a bunch of candy wrappers, numbers on the screen. We’ve grown a whole generation of folks that haven't seen paper money, personal cars or airplanes. Cars with internal combustion engines have been out of existence for more than 8 years. They’re completely banned, as well as many other things that previously would’ve seemed to stay with us forever. Most of the world’s general production has been stopped, discontinued. There are only basic necessities and gadgets that allow us to remain prisoners in the so-called ‘comfort’ of our home for many years at a time. We have no personal property: apartments, transport, gadgets - everything is now rented from corporations.
It’s really hot over here. Global climate change has been felt by each and everyone of us. It became clear how many mistakes we made in the past and what kind of future awaits us now. Under pressure from environmentalists and young leading IT developers in the world, Bitcoin was the last of all, resisting the switch to a new consensus protocol, leaving behind the most stable protocol in its history – the Proof-of-Work.
We live in a world where there are more than 76 thousand currencies owned by major IT companies, sects, communities and governments. Nobody calls them “cryptocurrencies” anymore, as people used to call them back in the day - now all this has lost any meaning, since other forms of money no longer exist and memories of what was called “cash” are collectively erased from the media sphere. The real world is available to the rich and the virtual world is given to the poor. Corporations have become stronger than governments, plunging everyone into complete virtual oblivion and gaining total control over the vital activity of each human being. Transhumanism reigns everywhere, most of us are no longer Homo Sapiens, we are now Homo Deus… But in our seemingly apocalyptic world, there is plenty of entertainment and subcultures. We still find the opportunity to get together in the real world, paying endless fines to corporations nonetheless, but hey, what a breath of fresh air, literally.
Gangs and formations divided the available lands into sectors, extracting the remaining resources, in fact even garbage and scrap metals left over from the time of the ‘First Major Rift’ are still a token of power. Factories and micro-production facilities are being erected in these sectors that provide escapism and a new form of entertainment industry. Sometimes gangs or communities are formed in these territories, simply because this makes it easier for groups to survive. And even here there are hierarchies and centralized management. Lords, their assistants and various ranks have come into play. Around this foreign yet our very own land new religions were formed, radically different from the ones we grew up with in the old world.
The citadels have also survived since the ‘First Major Rift’. They were built a long time ago, for a special class of people who had reserves of one hundredth of Bitcoin. They were erected with a promise of a bright future and a lifetime security guarantee. But now life in the "citadels" is more like a camping ground, with beautiful landscapes that are transmitted deep into your consciousness both in reality and throughout your dreams at night. Thanks to the huge capitalization of their society, ‘The One Hundredth’ can afford similar, albeit outdated technologies to survive and live in this so-called comfort.
The inhabitants of the citadels are always provided with food and water. Our parents had no chance to enter, only people who had 0.01 BTC in their wallets were allowed in, and all the prosperity these people have for their way of life is still provided by crypto-serfs. The construction of these citadels began a long time ago, back in 2017 to be exact, but they weren’t called citadels back then, not publicly anyway…
Our family chose a different path, entering an underground network outside the citadels and participating in illegal races that bring in a stable income. Collecting so called mutant cars from the remaining spare parts of the old era, we’ve been able to hold spectacular and dangerous race competitions with high stakes. Like any other community, we’ve got our own currency – the URX, which has value among a narrow circle of riders and fans who come to watch our races. To launch this asset, we needed to deploy a stable and mobile blockchain, built on time-tested technologies.
This is how the XLT blockchain was born.
Unfortunately, organizations that ensure order are doing their best to suppress offline meetings which have become the melting pot of the underground. However, the regulators themselves have become frequent guests at our racing games. Who knows, maybe that's why we still exist. The rest of the people... who were bypassed by closed communities have already been immersed in metaverses and virtual worlds. There they found their beautiful illusory world. All this seemed so unreal, not so long ago, in 2022…
So who are we? – Punks, digital resistance, or maybe just real people living in the present moment that are awake, that are alive, who never forgot that the future.. is now?...
Theoretical physics have for a long time, while practical physics have already today, allowed for the transmission of information in space using an entangled pair of particles and a wireless communication channel. This means that we can imagine the emergence of a new protocol where all transactions and node synchronizations take place via a quantum channel. The only way of failure for the transmission of information or currency today, is a complete shutdown of electricity or communication channels globally. The new protocol can be resistant to such cataclysms. The geniuses of our time have only a few more problems to solve: on what medium and where to store these databases, and overall how these bases and equipment will be able to function in conditions of some of the strongest EMP discharges ever experienced by modern mankind.
Our experiments with particles suggest mind-blowing results: are there networks, blockchains that can cross through the space-time continuum?... Can our network or our URX currency be available in your time or where you are present, right now?... What benefits could possibly come out from this discovery for humankind?!
Our family, hell the whole community, have been looking for answers to these questions for a long time. Maybe we’ll find them, and we’ll be able to globally restart the XLT network, which will overcome the limits of sectors, citadels, wild lands and will be able to touch the most mysterious matter – time.
Overmind has long been an intersubjective entity that’s been endowed with rights. This algorithm, or rather, a complex of many algorithms, has amazing computing power. Overmind exists distributed, spread across millions of computing nodes, while also being self-improving and has the right to vote in the board of management of corporations and citadels. It helps them prosper, it bails them out of crises with minimal losses, and in special cases completely takes over the management of corporations.
This is a good deal – corporations are expanding Overmind's capabilities, maintaining its security and stable operation, expanding the network of nodes and increasing their capacity. In return, Overmind protects the interests of corporations, contributes to their stunning and endless growth. Thanks to this union, corporations have always managed to impose a new megatrend or a new way of life onto the masses, rejecting which by the way, made the existence of those who rejected simply become unbearable.
The functioning of Overmind, from a philosophical point of view, is similar to how Bitcoin works: there is no single control center, there is no owner of this network, but there are many nodes that ensure its smooth operation. By the same analogy with Bitcoin, the relationships of people, lords, corporations and Overmind are formed on a mutually beneficial basis. People will support communication nodes, Overmind will support the people, helping them solve the most difficult problems of their well being in these complex conditions, helping people solve such issues that thousands of the best analysts or psychologists around the world are not able to solve to this day.
Once upon a time, Overmind was an experimental development, then it became a harmless virtual assistant, then it became a persistent adviser and gradually grew into an entity that determines the fate of corporations, citadels and people. Some people began to endow Overmind with qualities and properties inherent in esoteric entities such as Gods, rather than machines or algorithms.
But it was corporations and Overmind that built the world we live in today. A world in which a person has lost his economic value, has lost freedom of choice and has become an endless hostage of virtual worlds. Acting together, corporations and Overmind have destroyed the institution of the nuclear family, completely eradicated individualism, turning people into cattle. Even cows get to wear VR glasses to increase milk yield while contemplating green lawns & butterflies: so the cattle feels comfortable, while being in a small cage, without the ability to make a step forward or backward, the society isn’t far behind this reality either.
It is Overmind that leaves no chance for a bright future for our communities, and humanity as a whole. As soon as we manage to transfer the protocols to the quantum level of interaction, all the wild lands, lords and communities will stand on the side of our nodes. We will be able to join forces and amass enough power to launch the largest cyber attack on Overmind in its history, disabling it completely and thereby returning the remnants of human rights and the world to a point long before algorithms won the battle over humanities collective consciousness.
I wrote this letter recreating the events of, as it seemed to me, 2035, but not in the hopes of correcting something, no.. This letter is an opportunity for someone to plunge into the future, and for me – into the distant past. Where I am today, the world looks different, few people can read and write. I'm not even sure what year it is at all, but I tried to recreate everything that is happening from the stories of my parents: they happened to see several preserved photos from those events.
Going out into the fresh, slightly cool air, after reading the letter again, I realized that I’d written on behalf of a person I did not know. I was able to feel the experiences of the people of that time.
The wind increased and the rain began to fall; I really wanted to go home. All I wanted was to submerge into collective synchronization more quickly and take control of my surging emotions.
To be continued...
